Best College Towns on the East Coast to Visit
College towns are often known for the university or college they are home to. But often times, these cities are more than just a home to students and faculty. They have historic charm that is worth visiting! Here are a few college cities to visit on the East Coast:
Burlington, Vermont
Ben and Jerry’s ice cream — need we say more? How about coffee and breweries? This little town has a lot to offer. Not only does it have a lively downtown with a lot of food options, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.
Hop on a bike and travel along their trails to take in the sights and also stop at one of the many breweries or take a spin around the University of Vermont.
Charlottesville, Virginia
Home to the University of Virginia, Charlottesville will not disappoint. First of all, Dave Matthews Band got its start in Charlottesville. Second, University of Virginia is Tina Fey’s alma mater — the University is actually known for its theater program which doesn’t make that last tidbit very surprising. Charlottesville also has the same historic charm that Wellesley and Burlington, which history buffs will enjoy.
Pennsylvania State University or Penn State University is located in State College, Pennsylvania. The area surrounding the college is often known as Happy Valley. There is so much to do beyond the college “walls” too. From art and military museums to historic mansions, and some amazing caves, State College has a lot to offer the art enthusiast, history buff, or outdoor adventurer.
Wellesley, Massachusetts
Wellesley probably is the least-likely known town on this list. It is home to Wellesley College, a small private women’s college with roughly 3,000 students. Wellesley is known for its New England charm and has a beautiful historic district as well. Additionally, Wellesley is a short drive from historic Boston.
