Why You Should Spend a Day at the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center

Seabrook Island is a private barrier island in South Carolina along the Atlantic Ocean. The oceanfront community allows for a tranquil vacation near Charleston, complete with forests, marshes, and white sandy beaches. One of the best ways to take in the beautiful surroundings is by horseback. The only way to get a guided tour along the Carolina coast by horse is by visiting the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center.

There are a variety of rides from the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center available, depending on your skill level and previous experience. The center hosts guided tours on three miles of trails along the coast. You can also opt for private lessons if you need additional assistance before you feel comfortable going out on a tour. Discover Seabrook offers a comprehensive list of the available rides. The optional tours include:

  • Advanced Beach Rides: These rides require a minimum of three years riding experience and a solid control of your horse. You will tour your horse through the North Beach area at a variety of speeds.
  • Walking Beach Rides: These rides also go through the North Beach Area, although at a comfortable walk. There is no experience necessary and each tour is led by a professional equestrian at the center.
  • Scenic Trail Rides: This tour allows you to travel off-course through woods, marshes, and tidal creeks to see all Mother Nature has to offer.
  • Pony Rides: Children under the age of eight can join in on the adventure and be led by their parents on a half-hour pony ride at the center.

The Seabrook Island Equestrian Center has a beautiful selection of horses for you to ride. You can bring apples or carrots to feed the horses and get acquainted with your favorites. Or, prefer to ride your own horse along the coast? You can also rent space to board your horse at the equestrian center during your visit.

Before your visit, be sure to contact the center. Appointments should be made for pony rides and beach rides. The advanced beach rides and private lessons require reservations. This is an experience you don’t want to miss. If you want to nearby the equestrian center and experience more fun on Seabrook and Kiawah Island, Andell Inn is a great place to stay during your trip.
